Get it before your buddy does…

It’s finally September. I’ve always been a big fan of September, not only cause it’s the month I was born, but because what comes after it. If September was a holiday, it’d be Christmas Eve. You get a few early presents, but still know in the back of your mind that the good stuff is on it’s way.
It’s a good month to be on the water, although I should note, the first thing my mind associates with September is Grouse hunting. Ain’t no bird more tasty than a Ruffed Grouse.
Due to an increasingly hectic schedule, I decided that this year I’m not gonna make any Salmon River trips till at least October- probably the second or third week. Why that long? Most of the Salmon will be dead.
I’m after Steelhead and Browns.
It’s a good thing I made plans to wait a while for that first trib trip, cause my Steelhead box is empty, literally. What wasn’t lost to rocks and streamside vegetation last year was given away to a friend of a friend who’s new to the sport. It started out innocent enough, I was just gonna give him a half dozen or so to get him started. 10 minutes later he had about 50 flies piled in front of him.
I just didn’t need all that crap.
I’m taking a minimalist approach this year. Brassie Stone Nymphs, Estaz Scuds, Prince Nymphs, Sucker Spawn, and Angelina Eggs should cover my bases- maybe 10 of each with a few color variations.
