what can anyone say, great fly as normal for Mr. McPhail !
Excellent pattern, and probably the best tying demo I’ve viewed.
I shall be fishing Orkney in 2010 and this will definitely be in my box!!
Well Davie, you have done it again!
Your the “BEST”
Bob
Hey Davie, sweet fly, is that mainly for rivers or lakes? Also, would I be able to substitute turkey instead of pheasant?
Very nice presentation and the fly looks great also.
Dear Davie,
You have the best video demo’s on the web. They are clear and concise, and all the details are well thought out including the blue shirt background. My 12 year checks your vids all the time for help. Thanks for a job well done.
Davie:
Thanks for the great video- it’s the best I’ve seen on the web. I’m looking forward to tying some of these this winter.
Hi Everyone,
I’m glad you liked the video thanyou for the kind words….
Hi John,
Turkey would be a great material to use on the body instead of pheasant tail but both make excellent bodies,This style of fly is normally fished on lakes here in the U.K but it would easily make a great river fly too…
All the best Davie

Hi Brian Ronnow,
I buy the pheasant tail legs already knotted, they come from a company here in the U.K called Veniards I’m sure they supply shops all around the world as they are a wholesale company and only supply shops..
The company I bought mine from is the Glasgow Angling Centre..
All the best Davie
Davie,
I had to stop fishing with this fly. Every time I tried to fish with it a bird flew out and grabbed the fly before it hit the water. Your videos and skills are without measure. Your flies cause a bit of tying envy on my part. Thanks again for all the time and knowledge you are willing to share, even to those of us on the other side of the pond.
Hi Davie, Erin Go Bragh.
Davie McPhail must be one of the most skilled fly dressers. His techniques in the videos are excellent, with every detail shown in perfect focus for the learner. His relaxed manner throughout the tying leaves you believing that you can follow his method.
I have been totally impressed by his allround performances. Thanks Davie.
Hi Davie . Wondered if you have pattern details or have video clip for tying the grunter fly as i cannot seem to find pattern anywhere.
