The JVise

J Vise uses the phrase “The ultimate vise for a lifetime of tying”, and now I know why. This truly is a lifetime luxury tool for fly tying. A handmade tool that is just as much function as it is form. There are endless custom features and options. Jay is truly a craftsman and takes pride in his work. He can be contacted via his website (www.jvise.com) or email jayjvice@gmail.com.

As tested, and you can see it got used, the vise comes with a treated America Oak mounting board and trim basket. The mounting board allows for the vise to be mounted in front or on he side. Each base is numbered, so you know you have a one of a kind. This base is study enough that any thread will break before you move it. These is also a row of holes for scissor and tool storage, along with some useful bead/hook trays.

The head and jaws of this vise are strudy and well built. At first touch you can feel the solid design of the machined aluminum and bass bar stock. Smooth lines make sure that the design does not hinder tying.

Being a full rotary vise there is smooth rotating handle with a brass thumb adjustment that gives full 360 degree indexing options (you can stop the vise at any angle)

The precision jaws are rated for size 22 through 6/0. The side cam allows for fine adjustments that are secured with the 3 stage cam locking. The J-shaped neck allows for full access to the hook and any tailing materials.

The J-neck when combined with the full rotation gives a tier unmatched access to the entire fly.

Jay and I are both members of the same flytying club so I may be a little biased when I say that Jay is a genius. I am not alone in this view. Try out his vise, the midge jaws or the J Bobbin and I think you will agree.

It looks like a jewel and is a delight to work with.I can also recommend all of the accessories, as it makes some of the tools we use to be integrated in the vice. Such as a gallows, the hair packer and the dubbing bruch maker.

This really is an wonderful vise. You will definately only buy once….

Midge jaws are also highly recommended if you often tie 16′s and smaller. Best designed small jaws I have ever seen.

It’s a very user friendly vise with precision quality! I’ve used 6 premium vises but this came to my #1 choice! There are many optional attachments to fit my fly tying needs.

Best vise I have ever tied on. I tie alot of smaller flies, so I use the midge jaws the most, and they are truly a pleasure tie on.
And to boot Jay is a pleasure to deal with and a great guy!

I have a serious vise vice and my collection now stands at 36. This includes some of the best vises in the world and I would rate the J-Vise right up there with vises costing several times more. Quality materials and a remarkable engineering feat.

I rarely rate anything a full A+ but this earns it. It will be my last vise and that is saying a lot since I have tied on nine of them. At first I was put off by the cost. Then I sat down and tied on one at a local fly shop. They happened to have a J Vise in stock which I understand is unusual. I took it home the next day. This vise is a gem, a treasure to use. I almost forget it is there as I tie because everything is made and placed just right with this tool. Remarkable machine.
