Lucian Vasies shows his Bomber Baby Fish. A fly built with spun loops of deer hair, it is a great alternative to stacking and spinning hair. Lucian makes use of a Xpert Vosseler Tool to hold the materials straight and even in the loops.

Hooks: Daiichi D2220#8
Tying Thread: UniThread 6/0 red
Tail: Marabou
Body: deer hair
Eyes: 3D 4mm eyes

Mount your hook and begin the thread

Prep half of a marabou feather

and cut

tie in the marabou as a tail at the bend of the hook

prep your deer hair

and cut

drop a loop with your thread and insert the deer hair

and spin

Continue to spin loops of deer until you reach the front of the hook. On the last loop use a different color hair. Whip finish and trim thread.

Now its time to trim the body. Best results will come from SHARP scissors

Once you have trimmed to your shape, glue on your 3D eyes. Use permanent markers for accent par marks or gills.

a lot of thinking and excellent scissor work has gone into this beautiful example of “Deer Hair” work. I live in OZ and though it’s not one that I tie often I do many similar, though slightly bigger for small mouth bass, and have taken estuary saltwater fish with them, or similar to your patter I should say.

But I can not understand, figure out, how to get the deer hair on the thread????
Any way, just great….. Man what a savings of time …. I have been spinning and packing the last three weeks: what a mess

    This would be so convenient!!!1
