Ray Bergman Collection – 124) Gold Monkey
Ray Bergman Collection — By HatchesMagazine on October 27, 2011 8:43 am
Tail: None
Ribbing: Gold tinsel
Body: Pale yellow (floss)
Hackle: Guinea fowl *
Wing: Slate gray
* Though the guinea fowl body feathers are much shorter than hen feathers predominantly used for hackles, one could wind guinea fowl feathers for a wound collar hackle, then pull the fibers down and back in the usual manner. This of course, necessitates the task of sizing the feather to the fly, which when compared to applying a false or beard hackle as on this photo, the advantage is that any guinea fowl feather with enough fiber length may be used for the hackle on any size hook.
