Flies That Catch Fish Volume One – Dry Flies & Emergers
11 proven designs from the vise of Bob Wyatt. These fly designs are based on the most important ‘triggers’ to a trout’s feeding response – a fly’s size, shape & posture in the water. 90 min.
More Information:
Wyatt regards these flies as ‘Trout Ammo’ – His style in unconventional and yet extremely effective. Each fly is designed to be highly robust and simple to tie while presenting the essential triggers.
FEATURING: Wyatts’ famous Deer Hair Sedge: Mayfly variant and large terrestrial variant. Wyatt’s Deer Hair Emerger – Snow Shoe Hare emerger – Dirty Duster – Red Tag – Black and Peacock – Griffiths Gnat – Spent Spinner – Chironomid Buzzer
What Trout Want
Over fifty years of fly fishing has convinced Wyatt that a few basic designs will cover almost any fishing situation, and in most cases will catch fish better than specific patterns created for the so-called ‘selective trout’. The reason they work so well is because of the way a trout’s brain works. These fly designs are based on the most important ‘triggers’ to a trout’s feeding response – a fly’s size, shape and posture in the water. In fact, Wyatt regards a suggestive impression of a trout’s food to be far more effective than a close copy imitation. Presentation is the key. With these flies you can confidently fish for trout, anywhere they swim.

I like it a lot,my question is what type of dubbing do you use for the snow shoe hair emerger.
This video is of no use unless the materials are identified. Other than the snowshoe hair, there was no mention of the dubbing material-looks like some form of natural fur (squirrel?).
Addtionally, I have never understood the tyers need to have the focus placed on them rather than the business end of the vice. While this video does home in on the vice on a few occasions it should never leave once introductions are made.
lOOKS ALOT LIKE FRAN BETTERS USUAL PATTERN……
I agree,, if this is suppose to be a video that teaches? material and all eyes on the vice….
Videos that just present fly pattern with music instead of talking it through , to me its not helpful to individuals learning how to fly tie and yes there is to much focus on the person then the fly pattern. When a video is being shown the only thing that matter’s about the hook what size and whether it is a dry, nymph, emerge, etc not the number on the package that to me is not useful.
Now that the brow beatings are over, I really like the fly. Would you please tell me what the dubbing is. Much appreciated. Thanks
Some of the remarks are unecessary Bob Wyatt is an old Guy he believes everyone knows how to identify tying materials. So unless you get to Bob’s Standard just keep quite and strive to get out of the Beginers Class and Through the Improvers Class and let Bob make the occaisional mistake in believing you know what he is on about. Funny the rest of the World who watch his telly programme in North America rate this gentleman at a very high level.
I did forget to mention if you listen to the begining of the narrative Bob Wyatt explains what the various parts of the Snow Show Hare’s foot are used for, camera lights are devils for changing the appearence of colours and can make Silver Tinsel look like Gold Tinsel and vice versa. So pay attention to the talking bits, smile at Bob when the cameraman focus’s on him. The Flie will still look the same at the end.
I have never heard of Wyatt before viewing this video. I am a big fan of Snow Shoe Rabbit and have been for years, in many situations I prefer it over CDC. CDC does have a place and I use it almost equally. The body material used is of no consequence. Use what ever material, fur, dubbing or synthetic that will allow you to match your intended hatch or get you to the end result. Better yet, use you imagination and be creative. You can pull up any fly from any tier and substitute Snow Shoe for the suggested wing, tail or body material.
If he gave away his recipes, no one would buy his video.
Enough said.
God Damn a Buffalo there are some real cry-baby’s on here! Use some hare’s mask for dubbing U nit’s
On the DVD package lower bottom it states that:
:Bonus Fly Recipe Booklet also available for download at
:WWW.onthefly.CO. NZ.
It list all of the materials that are used in these flies and makes it very handy when you are at the vice.
