Thanks for your comment, Bruce! You are correct in assuming the ribbing is not gold tinsel. It is yellow floss, twisted to tighten it up.
There may be other recipes for the Getland that listed gold tinsel, but the dressing in this collection are taken from Ray Bergman’s books as the introduction article explains.
Some of these patterns merely stated “silk” for a rib, which might have been rod wrapping thread.
These patterns were all created long before synthetics were ever introduced…whenever silk is specified for ribbing, I use a single strand of floss. Maybe 2 strands on a dubbed, chenille or wool body.
Uhhhh…silly me. Looking at this again today, I see I replied correctly to your question Bruce, but I made the mistake and used gold tinsel for the recipe.
Checking the recipe again today in Trout I note the rib is supposed to be gold tinsel. Sorry for that, and thank you for your diligence!
