Brian Wise, head guide at River of Life Farm and http://flyfishingtheozarks.com ties Kelly Galloup’s Articulated Butt Monkey.
This articulated streamer is a great pattern for a range of species. While originally designed for large brown trout, any predatory fish can be targeted. The Butt Monkey can be tied in countless color combinations to imitated any type of prey.

Great fly, I’ll add it to Kelly’s Sex Dungeon fly and try out both next time that I go out.

Looks like it should work in most still water situations. Mitch Svaty, do you have any relatives in Kansas, my former college room mate and law partner, ron Svaty is a judge there and there is quite a clan of Svatys in the Ellsworth Kansas area.

    I still have relations there.
    I’m a flytyer, are you into fly-tying?

Great looking streamer. I’m not huge on articulated patterns, this is a simple one worth a shot though.

I’m more impressed with the video. it’s one of the best productions ive seen for a youtube fly tying video, and the use of fast forward really gets the content into a time frame that was simple to smoosh into my day.

Notice the Rust colored “Butt Monkey” in the water in the beginning of the video. It makes a deadly crayfish pattern when stripped with a popping technique mimicking a live crayfish. I’ve tied and used this pattern for the last 2 seasons and have had great success, Cutthroats hammer it. I prefer the single hook, Non-articulated, but have tied and used both. One of my favorite streamer patterns. Thanks again to Kelly Galloup for the pattern.

  11. Brian Wise says:

@Jack Storer, the original Butt Monkey calls for a wool head, just like in the video. The fly is easily one of the most under-rated flies in the Galloup line of articulated streamers, if you ask me.

Thanks for the kind words guys!
