Ray Bergman Collection – 184) June

Tag: None *
Tail: None
Ribbing: None **
Body: Alternate scarlet and white floss *
Hackle: Black
Wing: Light brown mottled turkey
* The color plate painting of the June appears to have a white floss-tip on the body.
** The body recipe as originally listed for the June could be improved by using white floss for the body, wrapped over white tying thread, and indicating a rib of red floss. My sample fly here shows some floss separation along the edges of the red section, which would be eliminated by twisting the rib prior to winding. Perhaps the June painted ‘candy-stripe’ rendition could be simulated by using two or three strands of red floss for the rib, giving a closer appearance to the body on the color plate.
