Ray Bergman Collection – 188) Katydid

Ray Bergman Collection — By on March 29, 2012 10:35 am

Tag: Gold Tinsel *
Tail: Green
Ribbing: Gold tinsel
Body: Green floss “Highlander”
Hackle: Green
Wing: Bright green

* The tag on the Katydid is not listed in the recipe but the color plate painting has a gold tinsel tag.
This version of the Katydid is dressed with bright green feathers. At times trout are really attracted to the color chartreuse, even though the Katydid is normally tied with a darker shade of green in tail, hackle, and wing as the color plate painting indicates.

    Nice fly, but what make and size of hooks do you use?

    Hi Charles;
    Tyhanks for your comment. The hooks are Mustad, vintage 3399 sproat bend wet fly hooks. I wanted to use the vintage for the classic look on these patterns rather than the new Signature series. I use those hooks for fishing flies, vintage for framed & collector flies only. Sorry to not catch your comment sooner…
