What a great fly. I assume you fish this fly with no floatant, or do you dress the elk/deer hair and not the CDC?

  2. I have enjoyed your videos. This season I have had success in the Iowa Driftless area with the guide special and and the thread emerger. I would like to know what you the tool you use to cut your thread. Keep the videos comong! Thanks

I use Frogs Fanny which is a powder floatant/dessicant once the fly gets really wet. But most of the time, a few rapid false casts and maybe a blot on the Amadou patch and it will float like a champ.

The design and construction of this fly continues to amaze me, so simple and so good. Hans is a genius!

The tool I cut the thread with is actually the butt end of my Matterelli Whip Finish tool which I have ground and sharpened into a chisel point. Before a tying session, I’ll drag the “chisel” over a piece of leather a few times to keep it ultra sharp and polished. It’s kind of like an old fashioned barber stropping a razor. Works great.

    Hi Hans,

This one is tied by Tim Flagler, he does do a nice job on your pattern.

    Hope you are well.

    Best,
