I built this in High School shop for my senior year project. It’s made entirely of furniture grade white knotty pine. The doors included solid brass hinges and screws which have antiqued nicely over the years and the varnish has continues to turn a rich yellow tinted gloss as the years tick by.

This is my tying desk. I built the desk from Sugar Pine about 20 years ago. It is about six inches higher than a normal desk. This puts the fly at eye level in the vice. I built it with tying in mind, the drawers are Cedar lined to prevent pests. I also built the bookcase.The books on the desk include a second edition “Trout”, first editions “Index of Orvis Fly Patterns” volumes I and II and John Gierach’s new book, “No Shortage of Good Days”.

My tying desk needed to share space with my office desk on an 8′ countertop allowing the computer to face both seating areas depending on need. The space is divided by a bank of drawers of salvaged pieces from the shop. I thought the top drawer would be for the office station but of course the whole thing was tasked to tying supplies.
