The Reason for the Season

One Christmas eve in a  busy shopping mall a middle aged woman squeezed into an already full elevator, arms heavily laden with items. She sighed tiredly as the elevator clicked through the levels. “Who ever started Christmas aught to be strung up and shot!” She suddenly declared. The other occupants of the elevator mumbled agreement.

Then suddenly from the back of the elevator a quite voice said, “They already did.”

The  tired shoppers craned their necks to see where the voice came from.

“He was strung up on a tree, and murdered. His name is Jesus Christ.”

Jesus Christ is the reason for Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all, have a fantastic Holiday season!!

  2. Actually, it is likely the actual birth of Christ was a bit later than December (sometime in the early spring, when shepherds were moving the herds) and the date we celebrate now was intentionally chosen by pope Julius I in AD 350 to concur with existing festival of Saturnalia, or the Day of unconquered Sun (winter solstice).

Now having said that I fully agree with you (and Jethro Tull, whose quote I borrow) that Christmas spirit is not what you drink

    Cheers

  3. You are probably right. I know the Holiday is not the exact date of Jesus’ birth, but it is to celebrate it. Thanks for the comment :)
