So, what does a father with 4 kids do while waiting in the van for mom? Play with flies. Today I had 2 foam predators close at hand and so I grabbed them and put them up for a photo shoot. Nothing fancy,but I suspect if we didn’t have air conditioning in the van, the 90 degree weather would have fried my mind and these things would have been battling it out like GI Joes did in my youth! Here they are resting on the steering wheel.

It’s a nice calm afternoon. My wife and 2 year old son are in their own beds taking a nap, and my other children and I are down stairs trying to entertain ourselves. I saw Pete Collins tie up a crayfish at Coleman’s Fly Shop last Saturday and it got me thinking I should try it again. My first attempt was a Kzoo Craw a month or two ago and that turned out pretty nice. My second attempt didn’t get past 1/2 done. After watching Pete tie on Saturday I had some new ideas to work with. Here’s what I came up with.
The top one was the first one this weekend. Not too bad. The middle one has no claws…..it was getting late …
I tied up a dozen white streamers for a swap I’m in. I really like this fly (although I just invented it and haven’t fished it yet.) The hook is a Mustad Stinger hook, size……uh…..2…..maybe 4. I wrapped hackle not as much for look, but having it there seems to hold the grey rabbit strip out from the hook giving the streamer a larger profile. I’ll have to try it out soon.
