Put a good base of thread on the hook all the way back to the rear of the hook and down the bend a little. Bring thread back up even with the middle of the hook. Take a piece of foam the same width as the gap of the hook and tie down. Wrap thread around foam all the way back to the bend of the hook and a little ways on the bend. Bring the thread back up to where the foam was tied down and tie on your chenille. Wrap thread around chenille back to the rear of the hook. Bring thread back up to the middle of the hook. Wrap chenille to the middle and tie down and cut off. Tie on rubber legs at this time. Now bring foam forward and make a couple of wraps and pull tight. Wrap foam with thread all the way to the eye of the hook. Cut a piece of mini chenille about a half inch long and figure eight with thread to the front of the fly. Move thread back to the body of the beetle. Fold back the foam and make a couple of wraps with thread and pull tight forming the head. Cut off excess foam and whip finish. Cut off excess mini chenille. Trim legs to length. Photo’s and instructions are located at ‘Step by Step Patterns Tutorials’.
