ABOUT THE TALACHULITNA RIVER:
Alaska’s Talachulitna River is one of the best south central float trip options. Just a short air-taxi flight from Anchorage, float from Judd Lake 60 miles to the Skwentna River. Part of the Susitna drainage, the Tal is home to some of the largest king salmon in the world weighing over 50 pounds. Using the right techniques during the peak of the run, the Talachulitna River will yield 20+ kings per day to the hand. The Talachulitna Creek and River also has good runs of other salmon including coho, pink, chum and red salmon. Other fish include char, rainbow trout and grayling.
Abundant wildlife on the Talachulitna Creek and River include both grizzly and black bears, wolves, moose, bald eagles and beavers.
The Talachulitna Creek and River offer both tranquility and excitement with the water ranging from class I up to Class IV at two specific white water rapids (Hell's Gate & Flipper).
Compared to other fly-in accessible rivers near Anchorage, the Talachulitna experiences less traffic, while the king salmon fishing ranks among the best.
If you are planning a king salmon fishing trip to Alaska, our Alaska Adventure Series DVD-Trip: Talachulitna River King Salmon Float Trip will give you the opportunity to see the river, including the whitewater, the scenery, the wildlife, the best fishing holes and the techniques we used to catch unbelievable numbers of king salmon, some exceeding 50 pounds. Purchased in combination with the Talachulitna River King Salmon Fishing Information Book, you will have the most detailed information available to assist with trip planning that will help ensure a successful trip by knowing in advance what you need to take, what expenses you will incur, and what to expect on the river. We spend hundreds of hours gleaning through web and print materials in addition to numerous phone conversations with outfitters and Alaska Fish and Game biologists prior to each trip. That information is condensed along with our actual experience. The book includes GPS coordinates of the prime fishing holes and best techniques for catching king salmon at each location. Also included is a detailed river description, maps, gear lists and a wealth of other information to help you have a successful trip to Alaska. Like any good science, our objective in writing guidebooks and producing DVDs is to share everything we have learned and experienced so that it can be repeated. We wish all the best that life has to offer… and may it include at least one trip to Alaska!
