The rest of the trip was pretty good, a day in Myrtle Beach, a half day in Charleston taking the carraige ride to see dead people’s houses…A bit of fishing in the campground canals and an unsuccessful walk on the beach.
I stopped in the new Orvis store to gather some intel after it was clear I wasn’t going to catch a fish without help and they pointed me to Kingfisher Guide Service. Capt. Newman Weaver promised to show me where the reds lived and we decided to hook-up the next day.
He was waiting for me when I pulled up a bit early and had his beautiful Maverick in tow.
We headed out into the Georgetown Marsh in search of tailers. The morning was a bit chilly but forecasted to hit 70 by noon and the tide was starting to turn in so we were optomistic.
What a great ecosystem. Bait and birds were everywhere. I had a few small quick hits right away but hook-ups were hard to come by.
The first and only fish of the day came after 2 hours and turned out to be a small red…described as a rat by Newman.

Then the wind kicked up and blew the mud into the marsh. We spent the rest of the day blind casting into muddy potholes and spooking fish we couldn’t see. It was tough in 30 mhp gusts and if I had another day to head out we probably would have cut it short but Newman was a trooper poling my fat butt all over the marsh in an effort to find cleaner water.
Great trip, Thanks To Newman.
The rest of the trip was uneventful, I recomend Crabby Mike’s Buffet for seafood. 12.5 hours back to upstate and back to work for rest.
