Midges

15 April 2009 No Comment

From the Order of Diptera ot “True Flies”   and the Family of Chironomidae, Midges are an important food source year round.  In the northeast, they become important in the slow, clear water of the fall and winter when the other hatches are finished.  They are also an important food source all summer long in stillwater environments.  They can range in size from 26 to 14 hook sizes and sometimes collect in clusters in the slower eddies.  This one was on my front door when I got home this morning.
