Floated about 4.5 miles of a named local ditch today with a new friend who wanted to hook a Brown out of this famous river before taking his summer job as a guide in Colorado looking for bugs and fish. Thunderstorms and wind blowing through during prime hendrickson time probably kept the bugs down and we decided banging the banks with a streamer would be the ticket. With the wind, the water was quite dirty with flower petals, small seed pods, sticks and other debris which might have kept the fish confused. As we pulled away from the stocking bridge, we got 3 quick strikes to the streamer. One we broke off the best one so we stopped to tie on larger tippet.
After about a mile, the fishing slowed down and strikes were few and far between until Jason conected with a nice wild fat fish in the pouring rain.
Congrats Jason! and thanks for coming, it was a blast!
The sun came out for about 15 minutes and the spinners started to fly. We caught a small trout on a rusty and then the bugs went home.
We ended the float just in time for dark and headed home ourselves.
