Annual Opener…Denied

She’s my favorite little pushy tail on the river. She fishes well in most flows but the meaner the river gets overall, the better she shines. In low water, she turns to mush in the middle but she always seems to retain that beautiful tail. And in the opener, she was looking hot and bothered. Swingy from just after the eddy created by the tip of the island all the way down to the double bucket and beyond to the sexy slope at the tail. The subtle standing wave 3/4 the way down cresting just enough to hint at the boulder that gates the second bucket, and the shoreline today was just beyond the drop-off creating ample dangleness to the swing….That’s all I could think about while watching 4 guys fish her. She looked great, after the closed season that is winter, she was working all 1800 cubic feet the river was throwing at her. So we picked at the margional water, trib hopped alittle and landed 2 browns. When I arrived home and told my wife that we had tried to get in the woods early, was on the road at 3:30, hit the woods before light and was still too late, she asked how old the guys were that were fishing my beloved run. I told her they looked to be in college or abouts…she replied: You’re getting old… %5bimage%5d%20
