Not Stripers, Not Complaining

Striped Bass make their spawning runs up to the dam in Albany in the Hudson and their arrival is anxiously forecasted by every chunker and live bait chucker within spitting distance of a white fiberglass 8 foot heavy action stick attached to a Penn spinner. It just so happens that I can get there in 10, fish for 40, and back in 10. Yesterday, the commorants showed up in force, the gulls were acting a bit strange and there were fish porpoising out there in the flow. There was a group of breaking fish within casting distance…the stripers weren’t there yet but I wasn’t complaining…
The herring are probably here, the smallies wouldn’t touch anything smaller than 5 inches.
